Simple Christian Dating Advice For Singles

When you’re single, there’s always people around you that want to give you their snippet of dating advice. For Christian singles, this advice can be particularly conflicting, confusing, and just downright annoying. Why can’t there just be simple Christian dating advice for singles?

Some of the supposed dating advice Christian singles are likely to hear can vary widely, but examples include:

Spend time talking through want you both want from life

Don’t play hard to get

Spend lots of quality time together

Get to know their friends and family

Make sure you date for at least a year

Don’t act clingy

Only go on a date unless you see them as a potential long term partner

Make sure they know how you feel

If you don’t think they’re the one, don’t bother

Date different people before trying to find one to get serious with

None of this Christian dating advice usually does anyone any good. Instead it can feed our insecurities, and cause stress and worry to an already sensitive situation. Singles everywhere go through ups and downs during their dating adventures. It’s important to try and keep a level head, remain realistic about outcomes and always stay positive about yourself, even in times of rejection.

Simple Christian dating advice should focus on two key points for all singles to remember.

Stop Looking for the One

Let’s get real here for a moment. The reality of life is that it isn’t perfect, and we don’t live in an ideal world. Singles who hold out for their perfect partner to cross paths with them are likely to be both waiting a long time, and bitterly disappointed. There is no such thing as ‘the one’. A person that is your ideal match, made just for you, and perfect in every way possible.  Nobody can complete you. A partner should be there to compliment you, and make life a happier place that can be shared. There are lots of possible partners out there for all of us, not just one. But we need to know what we’re looking for. For Christians, your partner should be someone who is equally passionate about Jesus, and together you can follow Christ to the best of your abilities.

Enjoy the Journey

Another common mistake singles make, is to feel pressured and rushed into finding their right partner. The simple Christian dating advice here is to forget what everyone else is doing, and whether they have got engaged, married, or started a family. It shouldn’t be a race. A lot of learning happens during our dating journeys. We find out about ourselves, what’s important, and what we need and don’t need. Our interactions with other Christians teach us many things, and shape who we are. That shouldn’t be rushed. Our relationship with God will see you through this journey, and you will find the right path. God loves you infinitely, regardless of your marital status. He loves you, and this love will guide you.

Now that’s plain and simple Christian dating advice that all faith-driven singles should hear.
